Imperfection Jewelry is the work of artist and designer Shayna Johansen.
The studio’s practice centers on handwoven gold and natural materials — constructing jewelry through a process closer to weaving and material architecture rather than traditional casting or stone setting. Stones are not placed into preformed metal; they are structurally integrated through fine gauge wire, creating forms defined by balance, tension, and repetition.
This approach produces work that is lightweight, materially expressive, and inherently individual. Subtle variation is not corrected or concealed — it is preserved as evidence of the human hand.
The collections explore the beauty of imperfection, which ancient teachings regard as inherent to natural beauty. Precious metals and organic materials are chosen not for uniformity, but for character, and as reflections of sky, land and seascape palettes.
Imperfection Jewelry produces two collections:
Studio pieces crafted in 14k gold filled or silver wire
Heirloom works are fabricated in solid 14k or 18k gold wire
Each piece is constructed deliberately, without shortcuts or replication. The result is jewelry shaped not by machine logic, but by material intelligence.
